The book is about a British Doctor/Scientist who asks the question,"Why are we taught only about disease and not about health ?". He then, with the help of similar minded scientists before him, explores the healthiest peoples in the Indian Subcontinent and tries to find out the dietary reasons for their health.
The conclusions are spot on, and the way he approaches and arrives at the reasons for the health of these people is just beautiful.
In this study, as well as the one by Dr. Price, the results are similar. Every culture that works hard to grow and eat natural foods, when they are fresh, are rewarded with excellent health, energy, vitality, vigour, and cheerfulness. The true value of food comes from good soil and soil management. These people work extremely hard to maintain the fertility of the soil. Their very occupation renders them to work in the sunshine, fresh air, with plenty of physical exercise. This, combined with their foods being cooked fresh and without any processing, gives them freedom from all kinds of diseases, both acute and degenerative.
For all the wealth that we can possess, for all the fame and fortune that we strive to achieve and accumulate, the truth is, if we are not blessed with good health, everything comes to naught. Healthy progeny only comes from healthy parents. And only this awareness, as well as the knowledge of the true source of good health, will ensure the vitality and health of the human race going forward.
In this age of science and technology, a lot of knowledge has been gained - about the human body, about diseases, and about health too. But most of that knowledge is fragmented, not whole. It doesn't go to the source. That good food can only be obtained from good soil and good growing practices. You can eat all the carrots you want, but unless the carrots are grown on a fertile soil carrying all the vital minerals, you won't be reaping the true benefits.
All in all, these two books were eye openers, and showed where we are going wrong in this day and age. It also gives us hope that the ship can be righted. And that should be the goal of modern science and medicine.
As Dr. Price says, "Life in it's fullness is mother nature obeyed".
